NEW SAVAGE SHOW

“He was powerless to save her.”

NUMBERS, a New Drama by Scarlett Ridgway Savage, directed by Richard Rose, will open Nov 11 at the Dionysus Theater’s L’il Peach, 270 West 36th (at 8th Ave.), NYC.

NUMBERS is a haunting new drama based on real-life events exploring the emotional turmoil of rape through the eyes of a victim’s loving brother. Journalism student Alex tries to make sense of the jumbled memories of events that caused his life to spiral unrecognizably out of control. Through his attempts to recollect, he takes the audience on an agonizing and astonishing journey — watching his little sister survive the most heinous event a woman can face. This is a Work-in-Progress (Staged Reading) of a vital new play for imminent full Off-Broadway production!

Scarlett Ridgway Savage is a multi-award-winning playwright, author, and journalist. Her play DEAR DADDY LOVE CASSIE has raised tens of thousands of dollars for sexual assault support services around New England. Author Stephen King described her as “a gifted young writer and a talent to watch for in the future.” Author Michael Kimball writes “Scarlett Savage is such a fine writer, you might think she was genetically designed for the work. The way she disappears inside her characters and kick-starts their hearts, then sets them wandering together in all their flawed glory for better or worse – you might think she’s been doing this all her life.”.

Richard M. Rose is a director, producer, actor, designer and teacher. His credits include New Jersey Shakespeare Festival, Playwrights’ Theater of New Jersey, Theater Breaking Through Barriers, Theater of Necessity, Theater for a New Audience, St. Clements, Ensemble Studio Theater, BAM, Tiny Mythic @ HERE, Xena Group, TimsLoft, Powerhouse Theatre, One Dream Theatre, and Grandfather Films. Richard is the founder and Artistic Director of Loud Acting School Productions and Shakespeare-on-the-Spot.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
WILLIAMSBURG, Va./October 29, 2009
The Redeemer Lutheran Church in Glendale, NY is partnering with the Wish Me A Merry Christmas Campaign to mobilize advocates energized for a return to the traditional, convivial greeting, bearing buttons that make a clear statement – “It’s OK, Wish Me A Merry Christmas(TM) (http://www.wmamc.com)”. Over 200,000 of these buttons have been distributed nationally.
The church plans to sell the buttons to congregation members as well and the public and those who wish to use the buttons to spread the message of the true meaning of Christmas.
Pastor William Wrede of the Redeemer Lutheran Church says, “Jesus is the reason for the season. We are excited to celebrate the birth of Christ our Savoir.”
With over 500 buttons already distributed in New York in 2008, local store associates are likely to be presented with the opportunity to deviate from the corporate holiday wishing policy of top retailers like the Gap and Best Buy, and stealthily wish their customer “Merry Christmas” instead of the generic “Happy Holidays”. But since 96% of Americans celebrate Christmas (Gallup Poll, 2004), it’s likely that the store cashiers would prefer to wish their customers “Merry Christmas” as well. In fact 88% of Americans state that “It’s okay to wish ‘Merry Christmas’.” (Gallup Poll).
Said Campaign Manager, Ashley Tarter, “National retailers will hearken the public’s message that it is okay to wish, ‘Merry Christmas,’ once again. In the meanwhile local communities are being impacted by the message of the Campaign.”
The national Wish Me A Merry Christmas Campaign is appealing to retailers to “put Christmas back in the holidays” with two straightforward petitions:

• To actively retract adverse corporate holiday wishing policies, by returning to the traditional and explicit “Merry Christmas” phrase; and

• To restore use of the symbols, language and sounds of Christmas in in-store displays, signage and music, as well as in November and December advertising.

From Florida to Alaska and into Canada individuals and churches have purchased hundreds of thousands of the red and green, “It’s OK, Wish Me A Merry Christmas,” ornament-like buttons to wear and share.

The New York City & Long Island One Call Center Now Known As DigNet

NEW YORK – September 1, 2009 – DigNet of New York City & Long Island, a non-profit organization that notifies operators of underground facilities of planned digging activity, announced today that it has changed its name. Formerly known as The New York City & Long Island One Call Center, DigNet is also unveiling a new logo and Web site address to better support its mission of educating excavators and homeowners of the importance of dialing 811 or 1-800-272-4480 before beginning any digging projects.

DigNet can now be found online at www.dignetnycli.com, and will soon unveil a new and improved Web site featuring detailed descriptions of all of DigNet’s services as well as information on safe digging practices and expanded resources for excavators and homeowners. Excavators are able to submit digging notifications and organizations are also able to request educational presentations from DigNet through the site.

“We’re hoping our new name and logo will be more recognizable, leading more people to remember to practice safe digging on their properties or job sites,” said Roger Sampson, president of the board of directors, DigNet. “Most importantly, we want everyone to understand that it is necessary to call DigNet anytime you dig, or else you run the risk of causing costly and hazardous damage to the underground lines in your area.”

Any work that requires mechanized excavation should merit a call to DigNet at least two working days before digging begins, including both professional construction projects as well as home renovation projects including installation of mailboxes, fences or swimming pools; landscaping and tree planting.

DigNet operates under the laws of New York State and Code 753 which is enforced by the Public Service Commission (PSC), all of which requires excavators to notify their local one call center prior to beginning any digging on a site. Failure to do so is punishable by fine. New York homeowners are not required by law to inform a one call center before digging on their property; however excavators performing work on the property of a homeowner are required to do so.

Even though not required by state law, DigNet still encourages homeowners to call the one call center before digging on their properties due to the safety concerns. Accidents involving underground lines may result in service interruptions for area residents, leakage of dangerous materials into soil as well as injury and even death to workers. Homeowners are also encouraged to confirm that their hired excavators have performed their necessary duties under the law and notified the one call center of the proposed excavation.

Jackson’s imminent return as coach of Lakers makes team top contender in next NBA season

THE VERBAL commitment of Los Angeles Lakers coach Phil Jackson to return to the team makes the defending NBA champion a strong contender in the incoming National Basketball Association (NBA) in October.
According to reports, Jackson made the public announcement after the Lakers management was able to secure the commitment from NBA star Ron Artest that he will leave the Houston Rockets and sign with the Lakers.
Artest who is a coveted player during the off-season due to his defensive and offensive prowess decided to sign with the Lakers in order to win his first ever championship along NBA superstar Kobe Bryant after toiling in the NBA for quite sometime.
The former Rocket is expected to fill in the void left by former Lakers player Trevor Ariza who decided to leave the team and expected to sign with the Rockets due to the limited money offered by his former team to retain his services.
Jackson who is the architect of the four of the 15-championship trophy of the Lakers including the last NBA season is a big boost to the campaign of the team for a repeat as champion in the next professional basketball season.
Nicknamed, as “Zen master “due to his great motivational skills, coaching mind and his vaunted” triangle offense, Jackson, will spearhead the campaign of the team against tough opposition in the premier basketball league in the planet.
Jackson is also known for his use of Tex Winter’s triangle offense as well as a holistic approach to coaching that is influenced by Eastern philosophy, earning him the nickname “Zen Master”.
The famous coach cites Robert Pirsig’s book Zen and the Art of Motorcycle Maintenance as one of the major guiding forces in his life.
He also applies Native American spiritual practices as documented in his book “Sacred Hoops”.
He is the author of several candid books about his teams and his basketball strategies.
Jackson is also a recipient of the state of North Dakota ‘s Roughrider Award.
Jackson leads the 2007 class of the Basketball Hall of Fame.
Jackson regularly attempts to alter his appearance so the media cannot use old photos of him for recent news, and, true to his word, as of September 2008, he was no longer sporting his illustrious mustache (originally black then white with age), which saw 9 NBA titles.
In 1998, as part of celebrations for the National Basketball Association’s 50th anniversary, Jackson was named one of the 10 greatest coaches in league history.
The Lakers is set to become the top team in the next NBA season since aside from Jackson and Artest the team will also have its star players back lead by NBA Finals Most Valuable Player Kobe Bryant, Spanish basketball superstar Pau Gasol, veteran point guard and versatile forward Lamar Odom.
The pledge of Jackson to return for the Lakers next NBA season is definitely a huge joy for the team’s millions of fans worldwide.
The return of Jackson also makes the incoming NBA season exciting for basketball fans in this planet.
This early join the multitude of hoop fans who will take part in the incoming NBA season by watching the basketball games live.
