The latest issue of our magazine was printed last week after a lot of blood and sweat was poured into it (not literally, don’t worry), and I’m happy to say that this issue came out even better than the last. We are continually trying to improve It’s Queens with the helpful suggestions of many of our readers, so thanks for your feedback on the last issue. Here’s what you can expect from this issue.

The cover story was on Mary Murphy, investigative reporter for WPIX Channel 11 news and winner of over 15 Emmy awards. I met her, and I’m not just blowing smoke when I say that she’s the most down-to-earth local celebrity you could ever hope to meet. Born and raised in Queens, she still lives here with her husband and son. Her career is the envy of any journalist, but it’s obvious she’s still a Queens girl at heart.

We had our usual list of Top 15 Queens Trendsetters, highlighting some of the most interesting people in the borough and what kind of trends they’re setting in motion. Footwear design mogul Steve Madden made the cut; did you know he’s from Queens and that Steve Madden, Inc. is still headquartered here?

We did a fun little piece on the five worst subway stations here. You may know them; that’s why we reached out on Twitter and printed some of your witty responses.

Sesame Street turns 40 this year. Look back on things on the block that have changed over the decades, but be proud that Big Bird still calls Kaufman-Astoria Studios home.
