State Senator Joseph Addabbo hosted a nearly month-long school supply drive to benefit the Sacred Heart Food Pantry in Glendale.

With help from local Girl Scout troops, neighborhood businesses, and generous residents, they collected several boxes filled with school supplies and toiletries.

Girls from Girl Scout Troops 4791, 4015, 4081, 4128, and 4791 spread the word about the drive, and worked to enlist Peter DeLucia from The Shops at Atlas Park, the Subway sandwich shop at Atlas, Ridgewood Savings Bank, Finally My Salon, and others to help collect supplies.

Specifically, the volunteer scouts included Emily Browne, Amelie Acevedo, Kayla Schaaff, Sofia Lelea, Mia Medina, Kirsten Litumu, Angelina Aponte and Meghan Bernardy (4791); Emilia Lelea and Hailey Schaaff (4081); Olivia Gorski, Christina Scaturro, Jessica Dimino, Claudia Huber and Sara Kurre (4015); Aminda Minagro and Arianna Demou (4128); and MacKenzie Schaaff (4415), Lia Benavides (4128) and Alessandra Porcara (4791).

They collected notebooks, pens and pencils, art supplies, book bags, loose leaf paper, toiletries, feminine hygiene products and more for the families that use the Sacred Heart Food Pantry.

“What an amazing effort made by these Girl Scouts to help collect school supplies for less fortunate families,” Addabbo said. “I am grateful for the generosity of not only the businesses that set up collection boxes, but by the residents of our community for coming together for this supply drive.”
