The program is a volunteer program in which a business or an organization agrees to monitor a DSNY litter basket in front of their location to help prevent overflowing of garbage in areas of high pedestrian traffic.
The participants will be in charge of changing the liner when it is three-quarters full and place it next to the basket for the next collection. DSNY will supply the participants with liner, a collection schedule, and a contact person at DSNY for the participant to call whenever necessary.
To participate in the program or for more information, please contact Assemblyman Mike Miller’s office at 718-805-0950.
In addition to the launch of this program in Glendale, DSNY will be stepping up their efforts to enforce the illegal depositing of household waste in these baskets. The fine is $100 for the first offense.
