St. Adalbert's Wins Back-to-Back Titles
The St. Adalbert Bantam girls joined the elite teams in St. Adalbert history by capturing their second consecutive Brooklyn Queens Diocesan championship, defeating St. Francis De Sales of Rockaway 37-23 at St. John's Prep in Astoria. In a rematch of last year’s diocesan final, both teams played a tight first quarter with St. Adalbert having a one-point lead. In the second quarter, St. Adalbert grew its lead to nine points through relentless pressure defense, and maintained their lead against a solid St Francis team. The team has gone undefeated at their level, winning 38 games, and became the third girls team in St. Adalbert history to win back-to-back championships, and the first in eight years. The team includes Ariana Almeida, Lauren Batac, Caroline Cayli, Alyssa Cercado, Angela DeLuca, Karissa Herrera, Megan McGrath, Sarah McHugh, Keara Moon, Michelle Pena, Gabriella Scauri, and Colleen Wenzel.
