Auto dealers deliver masks to keep residents safe

Franchise car dealers are stepping up to donate masks to residents throughout the state.

The Greater New York Automobile Dealers Association (GYNADA) is donating 500,000 masks to 12 downstate counties, including New York City.

Last Tuesday, the group donated 50,000 face masks to Acting Queens Borough President Sharon Lee, whose office will distribute them to seniors, essential workers and other vulnerable populations.

“Auto dealers are the brick-and-mortar backbones of Main Streets and neighborhoods throughout the region,” said GYNADA President Mark Schienberg. supporting little leagues, hospitals, schools, senior centers and many charities large and smaller “During this extremely challenging time, when so many New Yorkers are suffering, losing loved ones, losing jobs and struggling, car dealerships are here to contribute.”

New car dealers have been declared essential businesses. Their service departments are tasked with fixing cars and performing roadside assistance for essential and non-essential workers alike.

Lee said in a statement that the borough is “deeply grateful” to the association and its members for the swift donation.

“The masks will be distributed to essential workers and residents in high-need communities throughout the borough in this shared effort to bend the curves of this public health and economic crisis,” she said.
