Two gunpoint robberies happened just minutes apart in Middle Village on Sunday night and the perpetrators are on the run, law enforcement sources said. According to police, the first incident took place on July 1 at approximately 11:30 p.m. on the corner of 82nd Street and 58th Avenue, when two unknown perpetrators approached a 26-year-old male victim from behind. One of the individuals displayed a black firearm and told the victim to lay on the ground and give up all of his belongings, police said.
The perpetrators stole the victim’s cellphone and wallet before fleeing the scene, authorities said. Ten minutes later, police sources said, another robbery occurred several blocks away on 69th Place and Eliot Avenue at approximately 11:40 p.m. The two victims told police that two perpetrators approached them from behind and asked them for the time. When the victims turned around, one of the perpetrators displayed a firearm and demanded the victims’ property, police said. The suspects stole at least one iPhone 8 and a brown wallet. Police said it was unclear which victim the stolen items belonged to.
Officers from the 104th Precinct responded to both scenes. The victims in both cases described the suspects as two black males, but no arrests have been made, police said.
Sources familiar with the cases said that detectives are investigating a possible link between the Middle Village capers and similar robberies that occurred early on the morning of July 2 in the confines of the 109th and 115th precincts.
